We had 184 responses to the member survey that went out in the last newsletter. Thank you to everyone who responded!
The A4E education and outreach working group undertook this survey in order to build the resources section on the A4E website and improve the usability of available material for our membersĀ for their teaching, outreach and advocacy. Your feed back will be guiding the next steps. This project is supported by a grant from the U.S. National Science Foundation.
We will be following up on the responses and suggestions over the next few months. In the meantime we wanted to share a few key findings:
– The survey showed that Ā½ of our members did not know about the resources section on the website before participatingThus, the survey succeeded in its goals to let members know about the A4E web resources and how to access them. If you have trouble accessing something on the website, contact usĀ at info@astronomersforplanet.earth
– About 10% of respondents have already shared materials on the website; another 80% are interested in contributing resources in the future.
– Members have been using resources in many ways, especially to educate themselves and to share information with colleagues and friends. They are also used for public outreach, advocacy, professional talks, classroom teaching, teacher professional development and journal clubs.
– About 80% of respondents were approximately evenly split between Europe and North America; 20% were from South America, Africa, Asia and Australia/Oceania.
– About 75% of you expressed an interest in live zoom workshops about how to find and/or use A4E web resources.Ā Please stay tuned for more information about this, and/or reach out to kathryn@a4e.org to find out about workshop plans.
– 26 members are involved with planetariums and are interested in sharing ideas and experience related to communicating climate change and/or sustainability in planetariums.Ā Please stay tuned for further communications from us!
Many good suggestions were made about how the resources pages can be improved. We will be working to incorporate as many of these ideas as we can over the next several months.Ā We could use help with this!Ā If you are interested, please contact kathryn@a4e.org and/or adrienne@a4e.org.
