At A4E, our work relies on the freedom to teach, learn, and conduct research. When academic freedom is threatened, climate science and climate actions are put at risk.

Silenced: the dimming of universities is a short documentary directed by A4E member Laurane Fréour and videomaker Lorenzo Pengue. It tackles the decline of academic freedom in Hungary and in the US, where the governments have sustained direct and indirect attacks on universities. Through interviews with four academics, it examines why higher education institutions are being targeted, what is at stake, and how we can prevent this erosion before it is too late.

The documentary is available on YouTube, with an original soundtrack made by Federico Riva, available on every streaming platform.
