We thank everyone who joined us for our remote global meeting celebrating five years of Astronomers for Planet Earth! It was incredible to reflect on our journey, share our collective achievements, and discuss the path ahead as we continue to advocate for climate action within the astronomy community. In two sessions, covering different time zones, we had in total about 150 participants. A special thank you to our speakers and presenters – Jürgen Knödlseder, Laura Kreidberg, Leo Burtscher, Laurane Fréour, Adrienne Cool, and Sarah Wagner – for their inspiring contributions along with our A4E leadership and volunteers, and most importantly, to all attendees for your engagement, insights, and generous support. Your dedication is what makes A4E a thriving, impactful network.
Special thanks go out to The Future of Meetings (TFOM) team and those who joined us for the A4E Community tour in the novel meeting platform Spatial. Ending the meeting with such an enriching VR experience was truly a highlight! We had the chance to immerse ourselves in a simulation of walking on an asteroid, while simultaneously learning about its scientific background. Spoiler alert: with gravity much weaker on the asteroid, we had a blast jumping around! Another standout feature was the visual representation of climbable poles, which compared the carbon emissions of different meeting formats in a truly impressive way.
Find out more about innovative meeting formats on TFOM’s website. As we move forward with A4E, we invite you to stay involved, share your ideas, and help us expand our reach. If you missed the meeting or want to revisit key moments, check out the meeting recordings on our YouTube channel. Thank you for being part of this movement. Here’s to the next five years of using astronomy to inspire climate action!
